What you have been looking at is an interesting camouflage. The black eyes with white dots that appear to glow and reflect light, are not the eyes at all, but rather, are a camouflage to make the eyes appear larger than they actually are. The real eyes are small and dull brown. See if you can find them below the camouflaged eyes. Can you think of any reason that the Bactervira (stem cells) would create this camouflage? How does it benefit the butterfly to appear to have larger and bolder, sun-reflecting eyes than what it actually has? Do we sometimes make our eyes appear large and brighter than they actually are? Is this attractive to other butterflies or do you think it avoids predators?
