HEAT-RAY GUN
ACTIVE DENIAL SYSTEM
NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR U.S. MILITARY

January 2007. Mounted on a Humvee, the U.S. military plans to use a heat-ray gun called the "Active Denial System" to disperse enemies and halt riots.

Officials of the military claim that this system is "harmless" and provides a non-lethal invisible high energy beam that causes a sudden burning feeling, but yet is powerful enough to induce the enemy to surrender.

The prototype was unveiled at the Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.

Mounted atop a Humvee, a large rectangular dish emits a beam that extends a maximum of 550 yards (500 meters).

The director of the non-lethal development program, Marine Col. Kirk Hymes, claims that the beam flows through clothing and inflicts a sudden burst of heat as it raises skin temperature to 50 degrees centigrade which is painful, but defense officials claim, without lasting harm.

Some describe it to be like a hot blast from an extremely hot furnace that instinctively causes the victim to seek cover, and riots to cease and disperse, such as in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Raytheon, a U.S. corporation, is developing a similar non-lethal weapon called the Silent Guardian.
