KHON2 GONE, GONE, GONE * * * * September 14, 2008. KHON2 is completely down, and for those who enjoy watching Oprah and Dr. Phil, and other shows on the only clear station broadcasted in Waikiki without cable or satellite, it appears that you will not see clearly again until next year after all the stations switch to digital and you either buy a converter box or a new television.
KHON2 BACK UP
AGAIN July 27, 2008. KHON2 is back up, but at times there is much loud static. We shall see how long it lasts before it goes down again.
KHON2 ANALOG TRANSMITTER
MALFUNCTION July 24, 2008. The business office of KHON2 (channel 2) advised that their transmitter for analog has been malfunctioning, and the manufacturer is no longer making the parts. Consequently, KHON2 has already switched over to digital transmission.
If you have an analog television, then you know that KHON2 has been down frequently, and currently there is an annoying buzzing interference when tuned into channel 2, making it miserable to watch Dr. Phil, Oprah, and all your other favorite shows on that channel which was the only clear analog station in Waikiki.
KHON2 advises that you should get a converter box now so that you can see channel 2 clearly rather than waiting until February 2009, which is the deadline for all the stations to convert over from analog transmission to digital transmission.
Also there are coupons available to lower the cost of a converter box, but they may not be available in February because the demand at that time will be very high.
It is interesting to turn on the television and see what is there and what is not, as the transmission is being converted from analog to digital.
Currently channel 65 (or channel 14) LeSea Broadcasting which is primarily dedicated to religion, is transmitting much clearer than before. Joyce Meyer comes on at 10:00 a.m. Monday through Friday Hawaii time, and is usually transmitted clearly on the analog television. Also, TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network, channel 77), has mysteriously appeared where before it was not received on analog.
At night (in Hawaii) the transmission is sometimes crystal clear, but during the day it is not as good.
Therefore, at the present time, the only clear stations in Waikiki on analog televisions are "religious" transmissions: LeSea Broadcasting and TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) with shows like Joyce Meyer, TD Jakes, Billy Graham reruns, religious talk shows, religious movies, and every preacher known to humankind.
Perhaps, the fact that between now and February 2009, the only clear stations are "religious" transmissions, which is a good thing after all for Waikiki. * * * *
