RIGHT TURN ON RED

KILLS

July 2008.  At 11:15 a.m. on January 25, 2007, a taxi recklessly turned right on red into the path of two elderly ladies in a cross-walk at Kuhio Avenue and Liliokalani, but they fortunately avoided being hit. He drove fast but then pulled into a taxi stand where he joined other taxi drivers to smoke.

People need to determine their priority:  saving lives or saving gas.  You may be too young to remember, but before there was right turn on red, we could all safely cross the streets while cars were stopped by the red light.

Now, however, there is no time in which one can cross the street without battling with cars trying to turn right on red.  We can drastically cut the number of injuries to pedestrians by stopping all right turns on red.  Forget the gas.  Lives are more important.  Besides, if we all walked more, then we would not be so overweight and unhealthy from lack of exercise.
