VOG SHOWS THAT
TRADE WINDS RULE HAWAII May 25, 2008. Vog, volcanic fog, lingers over mountains in Honolulu causing respiratory problems and fatigue to many.
Vog looks like "fog," but contains particulate matter with toxic volcanic sulfur dioxide and travels with the wind to the island of Oahu all the way from the Big Island where the Kilauea volcano has become active. Tourists are primarily coming to Hawaii to see the volcanoes because the air quality is temporarily not good for other outdoor activities.
If you have respiratory problems, now is not the time to visit Hawaii because almost all the activities involve being outside much of the time. Unfortunately, it is not predictable as to when the trade winds arrive and leave. The Vog is reported to be the worse anyone has ever seen. * * * *
