SENATE PASSES
STIMULUS PLAN

*    *    *    *

February 11, 2009.  The Senate finally passed the Stimulus Plan proposed by President Obama's administration. While some critics are arguing that the U.S. should not be interfering with the market, nations worldwide are taking similar action as we are all in this downward spiral together.

Great Britain reports in the BBC that their economy was hit extremely hard. The governor of the Bank of England warns that "unconventional measures" are needed as the country continues to fall into a "deep recession."

Ireland is investing $9.1 billion in their two largest banks while requiring them to increase lending and cut salaries of their bank executives.

President Obama's Stimulus Plan will secure unemployment benefits, food stamps, tax cuts and provide incentives for the Middle Class, as well as billions of dollars to the states which are struggling with public debt because of this economic crisis ("Depression").

There is no doubt that we will be dealing with the economy for many months - well into the middle of 2009 - or possibly years according to analysts, but the government is, and will continue to do all it can to shorten the time for a turn-around.

STRONG v WEAK

A strong person does what one can, and then accepts things as they are without allowing oneself to become stressed out.

A weak person panics and becomes depressed and turns to drugs or alcohol, and thinks that the whole world is coming to an end. But, it isn't.

There are many who have lost enormous amounts of money. But, it could not be helped! We cannot do anything about it. It's gone.

But, what we can do is use this time to realize that something even better than before is ahead of us. Whatever you lost, will be made up to you double. This is the promise of Wisdom to all those who achieve virtues. And, it will be easier the second time around because now you have even more incentive to work hard and invest much wiser when the time arrives.

I remember when I lived in Washington, D.C. and was driving in the heavy traffic as snow started to fall. The roads were getting slippery, but I made it to work. That evening, I heard on the news that a lady loss control of her car as she was exiting on a ramp, and she died. Now, when she left home that morning, she did not realize that she would never return again. Her family never realized that when she walked out the door, they would never see her again.

Where are you putting your priorities? Perhaps, it is time to value your family, your friends, and yourself more than the money you thought was your everything.  It never was. That was all a delusion. Now it is time to wake up and learn to think about those things that are "really" important to you. If money could buy happiness, then why has no one ever been able to sell it? The best thing in life you have always had but never appreciated. You have much more than you think. It's just that you have been caught in the system. Blinded by the habits of daily routine.

Do what you can, and then hope and trust that Wisdom will guide you every step of the way. Keep busy, take a class in the evenings, go to church, pray, and trust that the future holds something far better than what you left behind.

I recently saw some homeless people in Waikiki. They were playing the ukulele and singing, and sharing food with each other. They were happy and even cheered me up. But as I walked further down the street, I saw a homeless man by himself, and he was drunk and suffering in misery. What was the difference? Each had no money, and no home. But, those with Wisdom found acceptance of those things which we have no control over, and found joy in being with others, loving each other and being happy, and having hope for tomorrow.

Think of all the great people who deliberately gave up their money to seek happiness. Why? Because when you take away all your possessions, then you are compelled to look at your soul (mind). Achieving a good mind is worth all the money in the world. It is priceless. Make your mind good. Achieve your virtues (reason, courage, justice, self-discipline, compassion, empathy, and patience).
