US INTELLIGENCE
EVIDENCE:
Kim Jong-iI Pyongyang, North Korea
NORTH KOREA * * * * March 8, 2009. North Korea threatens that their military is on full alert and is combat ready for war against the US, Japan, and South Korea if their test satellite is shot down. Commercial flights have ceased flying over North Korea since Friday because of the threat.
BBC correspondents speculate that North Korea issued a threat as a military strategy to intentionally clear the air for a long-range missile test (air space would have to be unimpeded by airplanes or other obstructions for any such long-range missile to reach its destination.)
The US intelligence alleges evidence that it is "not" a satellite, and has warned North Korea that if they are testing a long-range missile, it will be shot down. Evidence shows that North Korea is preparing to launch the Taepodong-2 which could hit Alaska or Hawaii at a capability range of 4,200 miles (6,700 kilometers).
North Korea asserts that their test satellite is for a peaceful purpose, and, to intercept or shoot it down shall be an act of war.
The US and South Korea have assembled over 50,000 troops in a 12-day military drill that occurs annually and will begin Monday, March 9, and end March 20.
However, North Korea states that it perceives this unusually large and prolonged military gathering as practice and preparation for a military invasion.
In response, North Korea has assembled its massive military of 1.2 million soldiers in full preparation for war. Further, it has cut military communication with South Korea which has stranded hundreds of industrial workers who commute across the border and cannot be cleared to return home.
South Koreans are protesting against the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, and the threatening test launch which they believe would begin a war.
South Korea's President Lee Myung-bak has taken a strong stand against the North since he began leading the nation over a year ago.
U.S. envoy Stephen Bosworth has offered a six nation talk to negotiate with North Korea on disarming its nuclear program, and has reiterated that the test launch would be detrimental to any potential efforts toward resolving the conflicts between North Korea and South Korea.
In the past, such talks also included promises of financial assistance in exchange for North Korea's nuclear disarmament. The present worldwide economic crisis would make a lucrative financial offer difficult for any nation. It would seem that any strong leader would value peace. Perhaps, this scenario has much to do about needed finance even more so than is apparent.
North Korea has been financially rewarded every time it threatens mass destruction. Perhaps, the Pavlov habit of financial reward needs to be broken and replaced with WisdomPeace.
