WHAT WILL SAVE * * * * March 12, 2009. About 10 years ago, a friend of mine made a long-winded argument that newspapers as we know them, would soon end because a digital version would be much better. He gave details that reddened my ears, but his prophecy has been fulfilled.
I used to go to a restaurant and look for a newspaper. There was always an edition around and everyone was reading it and then passing it on. But, today, no newspaper is there, and no one is interested. Why? Because by the time it is printed, the news is already outdated relative to the instant news we receive on the internet.
Further, there are many good sources we can read literally as the news happens around the world. From China to South America, we can read it first-hand, and we learn mighty quick whom we can trust for accurate reporting and whom we cannot. By comparing the papers, we have learned that even major newspapers which we used to rely upon for vivid truthful reporting, we now realize that they are villains of propaganda.
The internet has give us intelligence beyond description. We no longer have to crawl, but can walk upright in the news.
The ancient - yes - ancient - printed newspaper is gone. It is outdated by the time it reaches our hands, and we are tired of getting dirty ink print on our fingers.
But, this is not the end of a good newspaper. It only means that they have to CHANGE. Oh, there is that word, that so many people fear - change.
The major newspapers, in order to keep up have to change with the following protocol:
1. No more propaganda. You cannot get away with it anymore - yeah - h - h - h! There are too many sources, and when you tell those political lies, we all know about it, because the "reputable" newspapers, 10,000 or so on the internet, advise us otherwise.
2. Go digital. Forget the dirty ink print, and think of ways that people can receive a subscription that is digital. I really hope that most of the news will remain free online because we, as a society, need to know what is going on without having to pay for it. Advertising is still workable. But, please do not compel me to click on the advertisement to read your article - that is cheap and low-down dirty. If an advertisement is interesting, we read it. If not, we don't - se la vie.
3. There is "no" substitute for good journalism. Many would pay to read the writings of good journalists. Gone are those who merely copy the AP and print it over and over in paper after paper - same old propaganda garbage. If you want to survive, you actually have to love to write. For instance, I would write even if no one ever read what I wrote. This is the definition of a writer - someone who writes - no matter what. If it is in your soul (mind) then you will write. It is "not" a job. It is a destiny.
4. Give more than just the story. It is so disheartening when I hear the news on television and I am left with my mouth open, not knowing who, what, when, where, or why. For goodness sake, don't bother reporting anything if you cannot give sufficient details for the public to know what it is all about. There are too many people who have jobs just to collect a paycheck. But, such people will eventually be replaced in every field. Or, perhaps, it is they who pave the way for the really good workers, and when you meet them, you say, this is what I have been looking for. Each of us needs to find a place where we belong and where we love to do our work, and that is what life is all about - finding your destiny.
The world is moving in higher and higher states of order, and we must be a part of the WisdomPeace world order or Virtues or be left behind.
In effect, what will save newspapers is - nothing. They have become extinct. But, what will save the newspaper industry is to move forward to a digital age of higher quality and better journalism, and May The WisdomPeace Lightforce Be With You. * * * *
