HOMELESS GROW IN HAWAII

SOLUTION OF COMPASSION
FOR MASSIVE HOMELESS PROBLEM
IN HAWAII

*    *    *    *

September 15, 2008.  The solution to the increasing homeless problem in Hawaii has already been shown to you by the homeless themselves who are praying to God that you will awaken with compassion. They only need you to provide land where the homeless can set up tents. They need a place that is accessible by bus and that is safe for their families. Those who have jobs could be charged a reasonable camping fee based on a sliding scale.  They need a legitimate place to call home that they do not have in a shelter which is typically run like a prison.

Further, at a shelter, they must give up all their possessions except what they can fit into a small milk crate.  However, their small possessions are all that they have in the world. In  a tent, they have an opportunity to work toward achieving their goals while continuing to care for themselves in their own tent home. They need to have a public bath and public toilets where each are assigned to clean on a rotating basis.

Such a place would be inexpensive to operate:  Tent City of Compassion.

There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in Hawaii to such extent that there is virtually none.

OBAMA GREW UP IN POVERTY
IN HAWAII

Remember what OBAMA said that he discovered about poverty:  you need to change the politics, instead of trying to change the people (see Obama's profile). He knows because he grew up in poverty here in Hawaii, and yet look at where he is after he left Hawaii.  How many more Obamas are you abusively chasing out of parks and eventually out of Hawaii?

Most homeless do not need new job skills, but rather, they need time to find a job or to finish their education, and they also need enforcement of laws that will protect them from  discrimination. With most working people having two jobs, and others losing their jobs because of the economy, there is a job shortage even in the temporary field.

We need to stop stereotyping the homeless as drug addicts, insane, and alcoholics because most are intelligent, hard-working people who need a chance to prove themselves.

Let us pray for wisdom to understand, and the compassion to change our beliefs.
