KILAUEA LAVA FLOWS INTO OCEAN

May 2008.  The return of weak trade winds cleared out some of the toxins from the lava which blew here all the way from the Big Island, and brought patches of blue skies, but the previous two days were challenging.   MORE

SPLOTCHY SAND COLORED DOVE
BLENDS IN WITH THE WET SAND

"That dove looks wet!" said a tourist.  No, that is the color that blends in with the "wet" sand.  It is a rather splotchy looking color, but once you see it walking in the wet sand, it blends in perfectly with the environment.  The doves love to walk through the sand, and while the tourists are out swimming, they peck at their blankets and towels looking for crumbs  of food. It is not surprising that the "wet sand" color has evolved in the Dove community.

FOOT OF AN APE
OR US

Can you use your foot to pick up things?  Most of us can.  This dexterity reminds us of our past.  But, are we living too much in our past because it is comfortable?  We have been controlled by those outside of ourselves for so long that to have self-control seems wrong. Very few of us actually take control over ourselves in the full power that has been bestowed upon us.  We are driven by our desires instead of by our Wisdom.  When we try to control ourselves, it is like self-torture. We are not free yet, but realizing this is the first step forward with a human foot.

EVOLVED FROM APES?

Humans have not evolved from apes.  We are hairless apes, still struggling to be human - Cherie Phillips

To end wars, the hairless apes (humans) must acknowledge that warfare is a biological drive, and then find a non-violent response to this biological drive. - Cherie Phillips

COULD HAWAII BECOME
ISLANDS OF THE DESERT?

Hawaii has very few thunderstorms and lightning is rare (except from the frequent fireworks display).  However, we are currently suffering through a drought which has been going on for years.  Perhaps, this is Hawaii's "change" induced by Global warming.  If it were not for the watering by humans, the island would look very different. The infrequency of rain is presently similar to the desert of Arizona in some parts of Hawaii.  Perhaps, Hawaii could become islands of deserts in the middle of the ocean.  The future of many areas of the world are uncertain if we fail to do all that we can to take care of the environment. Once it is gone, only God can bring it back.

SPECIES DESTINY

Currently, we are the least important of all the species because we have not yet evolved to fulfill our species destiny, but, instead, are destroying the environment, destroying people instead of learning to communicate  to solve problems, and destroying other species. We are even destroying the happiness of our children by creating a new world disorder based on our present desires without concern for future consequences of those who must struggle to get out of the mess. Let's take the first step by realizing what we are doing. - Cherie Phillips

ARE WE EVOLVING
FORWARD OR BACKWARD?

Denying that our species is more important than any other is  keeping us from fulfilling the Manifest Destiny of Humankind to be caretakers of all living things and protectors of the environment.

Our mental power has enabled us to care for all species, not to destroy life. It requires no intelligence to destroy.

We are not yet humans, but are still functioning as "hairless apes."

Do we improve the quality of life for ourselves and all living things or are we existing only for our own selves, not caring about our children's quality of life that our generation has destroyed?  Will our children live with happiness or pain and suffering because of our generation?

Let's look at the whole picture:  Day in and day out accounted for, are we evolving forward or backward?  -Cherie Phillips

DOVE ENJOYS
RETURN OF BLUE SKIES
AFTER VOG LEAVES
ON MEMORIAL DAY

May 26, 2008.  Memorial Day brought blue skies and tourists to Waikiki.  The beaches were packed with sun worshipers who shared the beach with the doves.  Just a day for relaxing, swimming, cruising and enjoying life is the greatest way to show compassion to all those who gave their lives that we may live.

HIDDEN DOVE

While these ladies model comfortable swim suits, can you find the hidden "Sand Dove?" With biofeedback they evolved feather colors that blend in with the wet sand.  They are looking for snacks from tourists. When I first saw these doves, I though they were wet, but that is their natural color. Even when dry, they have a wet sand look. I did not know why they were this unusual color until I saw how perfectly they blend in with the wet sand.

ALA WAI STREET CLEANING
MANY CARS TOWED

Although the Ala Wai street is cleaned regularly, many cars are towed because their owners do not read the signs.  It is a popular parking place because there are no meters, but if parked there on the wrong day, it is an expensive penalty far exceeding paid parking.

COMPASSION FOR THE HOMELESS

We pray that you will have compassion for the homeless by understanding that Hawaii is the problem, not the people. There is no other place in America where housing is this expensive and everyone has to work two or more jobs to pay for a broken down, rat infested apartment where roaches rule the night.  I pray for you who look at yourselves in the mirror and see not the evil that you inflict upon others. You who have nice homes and chase others away even from their dirt floors are in a great deal of pain because you have lost the ability to feel compassion, and the price for that is deep inner pain. We are created to only have happiness when we help others. You cannot be selfish and be happy.

RUMOR CAUSES PANIC AT
INDIA TEMPLE
STAMPEDE KILLS 40 PEOPLE

2008.  A rumor of a landslide caused a panic amongst a huge crowd of people attending the Annual Festival that usually lasts over nine days.  The rumor stemmed from the event of a rain shelter collapse, but quickly spurred fear amongst the tens of thousands attending the Festival who feared a landslide and chaos ensued.  Over 40 were killed during the stampede and at least 50 were injured.  Most of the victims were children and ladies from the city of Punjab.

This reminds us that anytime there is a crowd, that there should be a system of organized retreat.  When people panic, they stampede just like all animals, and, step on others, even little children to save themselves.

DEADLY VENOMOUS BOX JELLYFISH STING ON SCHEDULE
TOURISTS NEED TO BE PROTECTED

Venomous Box Jellyfish attack swimmers at Waikiki and several other beaches; however, their arrival is expected and the ocean should be closed rather than waiting until after the tourists suffer the dangerous and painful venomous stings.  Just before the enter the ocean, a large swarm of Box Jellyfish are seen in the Ala Wai Canal, and their arrival in the ocean was expected. Never touch even a dead one on the beach as the stinging cells of the tentacles can still emit venom. Tourists need to be educated about the danger of this highly venomous creature, and learn to calculate the cycle of their swarm which is predictable. Box Jellyfish carry the most deadly venom in the world.  MORE

BOX JELLYFISH

While tourists were being painfully stung by Box Jellyfish, if there were any sea turtles around, the scene may have been peaceful.  Sea turtles are unaffected by the venomous stings of the Box Jellyfish, and, in fact, these turtles eat them.
